Notes from Pastor Tom
The holidays are always a great time for the WoF family. We do unusual things in unusual ways:
- Communion in a private home after a sumptuous dinner.
- A Ladies' Tea around a beautiful, private Koi Pond.
- Caroling where we let them come to us.
- A White Elephant Gift Exchange.
- A Messiah Singalong with MIDI accompaniment.
Why do we do things differently? Why not? We have the freedom in Christ to live creatively.
The 10th Anniversary Gala Luncheon on January 11 merits special attention. The luncheon focuses on the grand achievement of having a church start from scratch and make it ten years. That is not a minor achievement, as most churches starting from scratch last less than three years.
We want to acknowledge our symbiotic link with TLC and the changes that we have made over the last year to better minister to this part of our body. We prayed, "Lord, we'd like to double our church." He seems to have said, "Sure, I can do that—maybe not as you are expecting, but I have some folks here that would really appreciate your ministry." So we have embraced this ministry and tried to make it work. We have been averaging 50-60 TLC clients and staff at our first service throughout 2008. Each person comes voluntarily—which puts added strain on TLC staff for transportation and care as not all want to come. Only those who choose to come each week attend the service.
At the luncheon we will discuss the successes of the past and the challenges for the future. It is a time of celebration, and we are hoping that any and all who have been impacted in any way by the ministry of WoF will join us for a luncheon of good food, good music (TRS originals) and good fellowship. Please be our guest for lunch on January 11 at 11:30 AM at the Reseda Women's Club, 7901 Lindley Ave., at the corner of Arminta, between Saticoy and Strathern.
RSVP would be greatly appreciated, to tom@wingsoffaith.org
